There are good leaders and there are bad leaders. Automation Personnel Services understands this, and we do everything in our power to connect all our qualified candidates with top employers and leaders in their industry. Despite our best efforts, we can’t scrutinize every single leadership official you might come across. But we can provide you with some helpful tips to help you spot a poor leader before its too late.

Determine Their Rank

First, determine the exact rank of the leader in question. Is it the head of the entire organization or a shift manager? Is it a regional director or a district supervisor? You might have to do some digging around to find answers, but this information is critical when determining their specific rank and planning your next move.

Take Note of Any Personality Traits

Any kind of aggressive, annoying or bothersome actions should always be noted. Not only does this give you the opportunity to overcome their shortcomings, this information can be used if you ever need to escalate the issue and a file a report with HR.

Conversely, you might want to and look for any positive personality traits. Apart from giving you a better understanding of your supervisor or manager, this practice allows you to cater to their likes and preferences as much as possible.

Don’t Let Them Use Their Rank as an Excuse

Whether an employee has more seniority than you is never an excuse for a poor leader. In fact, their seniority should make them the ideal leader. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case. In fact, some bad leaders are so effective at using their rank to their advantage they’re able to keep their jobs for years without any repercussions.

If you find you’re working with a leader who uses their rank to maintain dominance, report it to upper management as soon as possible. When the issue involves a senior-level leader of the company, most temporary staffing agencies, including Automation, will be more than willing to assist with any problems you may encounter on the job site.

How to Succeed Despite Poor Leadership

Believe it or not, it is possible to succeed with poor leadership; however, it’s more challenging and tiresome path. Automation understands it’s not for everyone, but it can be incredibly rewarding in the end. Becoming upset or annoyed with your leaders doesn’t mean you must quit your job; it just means you’ll have to work a little bit harder to make your presence known.
