According to a recent online survey involving over 2,300 hiring and human resource managers across the United States, conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of CareerBuilder, the demand for promoting seasonal workers to full-time employees during the fourth quarter of 2015 is expected to skyrocket. This is great news for employers in the U.S. who are struggling with high turnover rates, inconsistent productivity or other workplace inefficiencies.

Seasonal Hiring Activity

Per the recent Harris Poll study, approximately 33 percent of employers within the United States will take on some amount of seasonal help. Furthermore, one-third of all survey respondents said that they anticipate hiring seasonal workers to fill increased production quotas, tight deadlines and delivery schedules. Some 57 percent of those employers are expected to transition at least some of their recent temporary hires into full-time positions at the end of the season.

Many Roles to Fill

While there are a number of roles that can be complemented by seasonal workers, Harris Poll’s recent study cited four primary areas that will see an uptick in demand during the fourth quarter of 2015. According to the survey’s respondents, some 46 percent of employers plan to add temporary help in the area of customer service, 23 percent expect to seek out seasonal help to fill administrative and clerical roles, 17 percent foresee temporary hiring to aid in seasonal inventory management and approximately 16 percent will use temporary workers to fill positions in shipping and delivery.

Recent Trends in Hiring

The recent trend of transitioning seasonal workers into full-time staff members didn’t happen overnight. In fact, as the Harris Poll study shows, 39 percent of employers added full time employees during the third quarter of 2015. This represents an increase of five percent when compared to the same period of 2014 and a massive uptick of 11 percent from the third quarter of 2013.

Future Demand

CareerBuilder’s CEO, Matt Ferguson, predicts that the anticipated hiring demand will continue to rise well into the future. He was quoted as saying: “Our study is reflecting a durability in the U.S. economy and labor market. Employee confidence is widespread and the strongest we’ve seen since 2006. Hiring will continue on an upward trajectory for both permanent and seasonal positions, with pay expected to improve over last year as companies keep pace with minimum wage hikes and compete more aggressively for elusive talent.”
