Although some warehouse jobs can be monotonous from time to time, it’s important to find an employer that doesn’t treat you like a robot. There are many companies out there that simply want you to show up on time and complete your responsibilities on a day-to-day basis – and there are others that will offer more flexibility, treat you like a human being and even reward you for going that extra mile.

Seek Personal Recommendations

Personal recommendations usually result in genuine, worthwhile and rewarding job experiences. If possible, ask your closest friends and family members to provide recommendations. Not only can this open up new opportunities you never even considered, but you’ll already have a good idea of what their job is like, their day-to-day responsibilities and their overall happiness.

Ask Your Interviewer

Don’t forget to ask your interview how flexible (or rigid) the job is – including scheduling. If you’re only available during certain days or hours, let them know. Remember, this doesn’t immediately disqualify you from the opportunity. If anything, your interviewer will appreciate the honesty and work with your schedule as much as possible.

Ask for a Promotion

Although your entry-level warehouse job will likely include some amount of monotony, you don’t have to stay there for the rest of your career. If you’ve been at your current position for a year or longer, feel free to ask for a promotion. While it’s still possible for your manager to say no, it doesn’t hurt to ask. Moreover, it demonstrates interest, dedication and loyalty on your behalf.

Research can save you a lot of time and hassle in the end. Online review sites, including LinkedIn and other social media outlets, can give you further insight into a company’s reputation and help you make the right choice in the end.
