Temporary employment is used by many workers as a means of filling in employment gaps, gaining familiarity in an industry and even establishing a brand new career. In fact, according to a new study released from CareerBuilder, hiring trends for U.S.-based temporary agencies are expected to see a four percent increase over the course of the next 12 months. According to their recent poll, nearly half of all employers are expected to hire temporary staff members in 2015, meaning there will be plenty of opportunities to choose from.

Here are some of the reasons why a temp job can be a great boost for your career:

Fill in Employment Gaps

If you have spent an extended amount of time without stable work, you may want to consider working for a temporary employment agency. Large periods of unemployment can reflect poorly on your work history, so it’s important to secure employment as soon as possible. Temporary agencies and staffing companies are regularly used by workers to fill in employment gaps and even learn some new skills that can come in handy later in your career.

Familiarize Yourself with an Industry

There are a lot of new enterprises and opportunities emerging in 2015, including positions within the light industrial sector.  This time frame presents a great opportunity to take the time to become familiar with a new role before making a long-term commitment. Whether it’s something you have always had your eye on or even if it’s little more than a passing interest, temporary positions provide an excellent staging point when trying to find out if a specific job is right for you. If unsure of what you might want to do as a career, temporary positions offer you the chance to experience a wide range of options to hone in on what you really enjoy.

Relocating To a New Area

If you have recently relocated to a new city or state, you may want to take advantage of a temporary staffing agency simply to gain some local experience. Because many industries tend to vary greatly between states and geographic regions, especially the light industrial sector, employers want to know that their staff members are familiar with the production needs of their area. Moreover, temporary employment within a new locale may even help you find new friends, community resources or new business opportunities that you hadn’t even considered.

Jumpstart Your Career

Jobseekers with little or no prior employment history, especially recent high school or even college graduates, can take advantage of a temporary position in light industrial work as a means of establishing your career. Whether or not you plan to pursue a future in this industry may not be as important as gaining hands-on experience, and this is a surefire way to start building that resume as quickly as possible.

Get Your Career on Track

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, October 2014 saw the highest year-over-year growth rate of temporary jobs since April 2014. With an increase of nearly nine percent in little over six months, it’s easy to see how this trend can continue to rise throughout 2015 and beyond. In fact, the United States’ temporary penetration rate, which indicates the percentage of temporary jobs out of total employment, is currently at its highest rate ever at just over two percent.
